It is located on the Zonguldak-Kozlu highway, approximately 2 km from the city center. The monument was built in 1973 under the supervision of the architect of the project, Yılmaz Soylu, within 3 months. The monument consists of the thought of the three martyrs (martyred soldier, martyred miner, and the first victim of the mines and the legendary martyr Uzun Mehmet), the owner of Zonguldak.

The Uzun Mehmet Monument was positioned on the ridge of Balkaya, visible from all over the city center of Zonguldak at that time, despite the transportation problem. In 1983, the area around the monument was organized as a picnic area and a promenade by the Zonguldak Municipality.
