The monumental building known as "Chargement" within the port of Zonguldak means "chargement" in terms of its function. This facility, which was built to load the coal produced in the basin and brought to the port by rail, was used to load cargo, especially coal, on freighter type ships. This structure, made by carving limestone, is an original example of the period. Considering its existence for more than a hundred years, it can be said that it is the oldest architectural value that has survived in salt water.

This monumental building has been registered as "immovable cultural property" with the decision of the Karabük Cultural Heritage Preservation Board dated 17.02.2009 and numbered 1190. The reason for the registration by the Board was that “The chargoman (coal loading pier) structure reflects the architectural understanding and culture of the city that needs to be preserved for a certain period, being one of the examples that positively affects the urban silhouette, it has a monumental and symbolic feature, and Zonguldak, which is a coal city, for a period.

Considering the fact that the said building was used as a coal loading pier in its culture, it is appropriate (affirmative) that the said chargemen (coal loading pier) structure should be registered as "Immovable Cultural Property Required to be Preserved" within the scope of the Law on the Protection of Cultural and Natural Assets, numbered 2863.
